What “free” means here From the provider's documentation
- Free model routes (IDs ending in :free) are limited to 20 requests per minute.
- Free routes allow 50 requests per day, or 1,000 per day once the account has bought at least $10 in credits.
- These limits don't apply to paid routes.

Your data on the free option
Free routes are served by different providers with their own data policies. Check a route's page on OpenRouter before sending private code.
Use it with cheapoS
- Create a key on OpenRouter's own site. Never paste it into cheapos.lol, a public chat or a repository.
- Add it to your local gateway. In cheapoS, open Models → Open OmniRoute, add the provider and key, then refresh models. Connection guide ↗
- Start small. Pick a tool-capable model and a task you can check before relying on the quota.
